Pack Less, Stress Less. My Simple Travel Must Haves!

Whether you’re heading out for a quick solo weekend or a soul-searching retreat somewhere far away, a little planning makes all the difference.

I always say: pack half the stuff and twice the money. We almost always bring too many clothes, and a few extra dollars would’ve made the trip smoother or more memorable. Here’s my streamlined list of must-haves. Nothing fancy, just things that help you stress less and enjoy more.

Tell someone your plan. Before you go, let someone know where you’re headed, where you’re staying, and your general travel plan especially if you’re going solo. Check in along the way. Location sharing can be a lifesaver.

Photo ID. (plus a copy). Not glamorous, but essential. Flying, car rentals, ordering wine, and international travel all require it. Keep a photocopy in a separate bag, just in case.

A good day bag. A comfortable backpack you can carry all day makes a huge difference. Pack it with your daily essentials — water, snacks, wallet, camera and save yourself the pain of hunting for one on the road.

Cash. The world may be digital, but cash is still king in small towns, remote places, and when technology has a meltdown. It’s also best for tipping.

Sunscreen. Often forgotten, always regretted. You’ll spend more time outside than usual, and sunburn can ruin a trip fast. Some destinations require reef-safe sunscreen, so coming prepared helps.

A camera. (optional, but nice). Phones do a great job, but a camera gives you better quality and a backup if your phone gets lost or dies.

Simple, practical points to make your trip less stressful.

Happy Trails!
