Itinerary
Monday May 5th
Arrive at Belfast City Airport and meet with fellow Retreat goers.
Dinner in Belfast at locally renowned restaurant.
Travel via private coach to the Giant’s Causeway Hotel.
Tuesday May 6th
Late morning Giants causeway hike. Starting at Drunsevich Castle and ending at the Giant’s Causeway, this five-mile hike will be led by a local guide.
Lunch at the Causeway Hotel
Visit Carrick-a-Rede, a quick 20min adventure to a tiny island via a rope bridge. It is believed that salmon fishermen have been building bridges to this island for over 350 years, though the current bridge is a more modern homage to these original bridges that were often nothing more than one handrail with large gaps between the slats.
Visit The Dark Hedges, an avenue lined by spectacular beech trees that has become one of Ireland’s most photographed locations as well as a filming location for Game of Thrones used to represent The Kings Road. Originally planted to line the approach to Gracehill House, two centuries later you can now walk beneath their branches and enjoy the unique beauty of these ancient trees.
Travel to the picturesque town of Donegal via private coach
Wednesday May 7th
Hike the Devil’s Chimney (Sruth in Aghaidh An Aird), Ireland’s tallest waterfall. This relatively short hike of 2.5km features sharp inclines and often rocky and slippery footpaths.
Travel the Marble Arch caves where you will descend beneath the surface to explore these awe-inspiring caverns formed over 340 million years ago, led by an experienced guide.
Alternative Stairway to Heaven hike for those who wish to remain on the surface.
End the day in Westport, beneath the gaze of Croagh Patrick, Ireland’s Holy Mountain.
Thursday May 8th
Hike Croagh Patrick, one of Ireland’s most famous pilgrimage sites. Saint Patrick is said to have fasted atop the mountain for 40 days and each year on the last Sunday in July nearly 30,000 people retrace his steps. This 7km hike is considered difficult in places due to its rocky path and steep inclines.
Wrap up the day with dinner at Sage, a famous dining experience in Westport featuring local produce and meats.
Friday May 9th
Leave Westport and travel down the Wild Atlantic way, stopping at GlenKeen Farm for a sheep herding demonstration and learn about sheep farming and its deeply rooted history in Ireland.
Spend the night in Doolin at Aran View House, a Georgian style country house which is located on 100 acres of farmland and holds a commanding view of The Aran Islands off the coast of Co.Clare.
Saturday May 10th
Spend the morning hiking along the Cliffs of Moher, led by an experienced guide who will lead you from the town of Doolin all the way along the length of the cliffs to the visitors center.
Take the ferry across to Inis More and explore the island’s many wonders.
Spend the night Glamping on the Beach of Inis More.
Sunday May 11th
Return to the mainland and travel via private coach to Bunratty Castle and Folk town. This Folk town is set in 19th century Ireland highlighting a pivotal point in Irish history where the growing money-oriented lifestyle of many villagers met the traditional, self-sufficient rural lifestyle.
End the day with a medieval style banquet hosted in Bunratty Castle where you will experience what it was like to be a guest of The Earl of Thomond.
Monday May 12th
Fly home from Shannon Airport.
