Money Matters in Ireland: Euros, Cards, and Cash

If you’re traveling to Ireland for the first time, you may be wondering how to handle money. The good news is that it’s pretty easy!

Ireland uses the euro (€), and most places you visit will accept major credit cards, especially Visa and Mastercard. Restaurants, hotels, shops, cafés, and many attractions also accept contactless payments.

You don’t need to bring much cash. I recommend having around €100-€200 in smaller bills just in case. Cash can be especially handy for tips, small purchases, or places where a card isn’t as convenient.

Before you leave, check with your credit card company about foreign transaction fees. And when given the choice to pay in euros or U.S. dollars, choose euros and let your card company handle the conversion.

So, bring your card, carry a little cash, and don’t worry too much about the money part. Your trip is completely covered from arrival to departure except for souvenirs and tips. You’ll have plenty of other things to think about, like how to take your coffee in the morning or whether you should put jam on your scone:)
